My Adventures at the Mall: Celebrating National Shoe Week

When you talk about “shoes” many different people automatically think many different things. I for one have never been a “shoe” person, though I admit I love a cute pair of shoes. When the folks at Stoneridge Mall asked me to write a post about “Celebrating National Shoe Week” I figured I could come up with something.

As a mom I have come to reassess my shoe buying standards to something more than just if they look good and I can squeeze my feet into them. I need shoes that are practical, comfortable and affordable. Even more that I need shoes that fit the season. I don’t mean that in a fashion forward kind of season, I mean winter, spring, and summer fall kind of season. I am also weary of shopping for my kids as well because as any mom knows, kids grow FAST. I am always looking for good sturdy shoes that do not cost and arm and a leg because I know that despite how great the shoes are, they will be out them in less than a year.

So what’s a mom to do? Go to the mall. Read more

My Adventures At the Mall – Getting Ready for Spring

You may remember my side blogging project as the Stoneridge Mall Blog Correspondent. Every month I’m given an assignment and a gift card from Simon Malls and am sent to the mall to make magic happen. Ok, well not magic but at least it gives me the achance to pretend I’m 14 and cruise the mall once a month.

This month’s assignment handed down straight from Simon Malls HQ was something to prepare for spring break. It was by no means a challenge to me. Spring? Good weather? My mind went straight to sandals. Read more

Adam Sandler: A Look Back

It’s funny what kind of things draws you to an actor or actress. Sometimes it’s the way they make you laugh or cry. Sometimes its the movie and TV choices that over the course of time create a body of work you enjoy. And sometimes it starts with a simple feeling of familiarity that endears you to that actor through good movies and… not so good movies.

That’s the best way I can describe my feelings for Adam Sandler. Sandler’s heyday on Saturday Night Live (SNL) happen to coincide with my years in high school. And Sandler stood out during that time, for my friends and I anyway, because he was one of us. He was every guy I hung out with in high school, and his movie career only furthered that feeling. Remembering A Wrinkle In Time

It was a dark and stormy night.

It’s a legendary line that has been used in books since 1830. But for me I associate that line with what was one of my favorite books in childhood.

I was in the 4th grade the first time I read those words in the opening paragraph of Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time.  It’s the first book in her famous science fiction series and was published in 1962. I was 9 years old when the first time I was instantly drawn into the world of Meg Murray. Maybe it was because we shared the same name. Or maybe because I felt like a misfit a lot of time, the same as Meg. Maybe I adored this book because it was about time and space and things I loved. And maybe, just maybe, I loved it simply because for once I was reading an adventure sci-fi book where the lead character, was a girl.

Whatever the reason, in those first few pages I was drawn into a world that would forever change my life. Read more

My Adventures At the Mall – Organization in the New Year

Last month (year) I began a new side blogging project as the Stoneridge Mall Blog Correspondent. Every month I’m given an assignment, a gift card from Simon Malls and am sent to the mall to make magic happen. Ok, well not magic but at least some organization in my house, which is not so much magic as a miracle.

So my assignment was to find something in the mall that would help me get organized in 2012.  The term organization was left up to me to interpret and I was given free reign in deciding what I was going to purchase. Read more

A Women’s Right To Choose

Last week were two very important things that I totally let slip by without writing about them here on my blog. Time has been a scarce thing for me and honestly I haven’t’ been blogging here on my beloved blog as often as I’d like to. I’m working VERY hard on my time management skills and hoping to start blogging there much more often. But I digress…

The two things that I’m sorry I missed are the Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade and Trust Women Week, an online mass mobilization for women’s lives and rights. Which was last week in honor of the Roe vs. Wade anniversary. Read more
