The State of Creepy and The Houses October Built

HOB_STILL_5-620x400Last night I had a dream. I dreamt that there was a creepy girl in a porcelain doll mask with frayed and dirty hair, and a creepy dirty old dress with blood on it and she had crazy horror movie eyes. In a singsong voice she asked me to play and followed me in a slow creepy skip down a dark ally. From out of nowhere she began to lunge at me. But lo and behold I had Ruby’s Knife (from the show Supernatural) and began to fight creepy little porcelain thing off. Suddenly I jolted awake and was in my bed. It was 4AM. More

The Top 10 Movie Kisses

“Then I did the simplest thing in the world.  I leaned down… and kissed him.  And the world cracked open.”  ~Agnes de Mille

I love that quote. I also love a good kiss. But doesn’t everyone love a good kiss? Whether it’s in real life or on the big screen. Movie kisses are often simply the embodiment of all the beautiful things the audience feels when getting a good kiss in real life. It doesn’t matter who or where you are, when you get a good kiss it feels like you’re in a movie.

That is why a good movie kiss can touch an audience so deeply, and make or break the entire movie. Here is a list of 10 of the best movie kisses from the last 25-years. It would be too difficult to make a list of all time movie kisses when classics such as Roman HolidayOfficer and A Gentleman, and the all time best movie kiss in, Gone With The Wind, would take up the whole list hands down.

Therefore, for the sake of fairness this top-10 is strictly from the last quarter century.

P.S. I Love You

1) P.S. I Love You – 2007

Truth is, I just saw this movie for the first time a week ago. And yes, I pretty much cried through the whole thing. I mean a movie about a young widow dealing with the death of her husband via the letters he left for her is obviously one big sob fest. But, it also includes one of the most magical kisses ever set to screen between Gerard Butler and Hilary Swank. Kissing with the back drop of Ireland is always a way to score high points. And this kiss stayed with me so much that it inspired me to write this post in the first place.

Titanic

2) Titanic1996

James Cameron epic tale of the doomed ocean liner made for one of the most beautiful backdrops for a movie kiss ever. As the wind and the sunset falls before Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s Jack & Kate, the audience can’t help but feel their own hearts race as Jack and Kate share their first kiss.

Serendipity

3) Serendipity-2001

Maybe not as well known as the first two, Serendipity offers one of the most visually and auditorically captivating kisses of all time. With the climactic kiss at the end of the film between Jonathan and Sarah (John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale) set beneath the snowy darkness of a New York sky and to the sound of a score that leads into Nick Drake’s “Northern Sky”, Serendipity’s final kiss will leave you teary-eyed and covered with goose bumps every time.

Some Kind of Wonderful

4) Some Kind of Wonderful-1987

Known as the anti version of Pretty in Pink, where the best friends actually do fall in love, Some Kind of Wonderful offers one of the most surprisingly sensual kisses in recent history. While best gal pal Watz (Mary Stuart Masterson) is trying to coach her friend Keith (Eric Stolz) how to act before his big date with the hottest girl in school, they share a “practice” kiss. The kiss brings all these feelings and emotions that they didn’t even know they had to the surface, leaving them both breathless and speechless. A scene that will leave any moviegoer feeling a little flushed in the cheeks.

Only You

5) Only You-1994

Starring Marissa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. as Faith and Peter, Only You is a movie that pays homage to every romantic movie, song, and notion ever written. Set in Italy (where every kiss looks like a movie kiss), Faith (Marissa Tomei) is following her Destino (Italian) and eventually finds it in the face of Peter (Robert Downey Jr.). A kiss that is well worth waiting tell the last minute for.

Back to the Future

6) Back to the Future-1985

It would be hard to not include a movie where the premise of the whole movie is that the entire existence of the main character relies solely on one kiss. Set to the sounds of the very romantic tune, Earth Angel at the “Enchantment Under The Sea” dance, George and Lorraine’s (Crispin Glover & Lea Thompson) long awaited kiss is the most magical moment in the film. Especially when their future son, Marty (Michael J. Fox) is brought back from almost ceasing to exist, the kiss, having restored the space-time continuum.

Never Been Kissed

7) Never Been Kissed-1999

Everyone should experience a kiss like the one at the climax of this Drew Barrymore romantic comedy. As Josie (Drew Barrymore) awaits Sam, the man she loves (Michael Vartan) in front of a crowd of people on a baseball field, where she has asked him to meet her and give her first real kiss, our hearts break when time runs out and Sam is nowhere to be found. Then at the last moment, the sounds of the Beach Boys, “Don’t Worry Baby” begins and Sam comes running through the crowd and into Josie’s arms where he gives her the best first kiss ever.

Bridget Jones Diary

8) Bridget Jones Diary2000

So maybe Bridget Jones (Renee Zelweger) is not as graceful as one of Jane Austen’s heroines in Pride and Prejudice, standing there in the middle of the snowy street in her underwear, but when she finally gets her Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) the audience can’t help but cheer.

St. Elmo's Fire

9)   St. Elmo’s Fire-1985

Anyone who has ever faced the pain of unrequited love is vindicated in this scene where Kirby Kager (Emilo Estevez) finally says goodbye to the girl of his dreams, Dale Beaverman (Andie McDowell). Having been let down easy by the much older Dale, Kirby decides to say goodbye with a kiss that leaves Dale stunned, and Kirby, finally ready to move on.

The Princess Bride

10) The Princess Bride-1987

The quote from the movie that introduces this final kiss between Buttercup and Wesley (Robin Wright-Penn and Cary Elwes) pretty much says it all, “Since the invention of the kiss, there have only been five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind.”

Now I KNOW I missed a ton. So tell me, what is YOUR favorite movie kiss?
